Students and Teachers

The Scholars come into the program from two schools located in poor regions of Tijuana. Through a collaborative process which engages the schools’ principals, the smartest and most talented children who have a prominent financial need are identified and recruited into the program. Each year, four students enter the program at the sixth grade level; they are expected to remain in the program until graduating from high school.

The Scholars are truly fantastic children who are polite, intelligent, eager to learn, and respectful of their teachers, mentors, and peers.

The teachers for the Scholars Lab are Rotarians from both the La Jolla Rotary Club and the Tijuana Rotary Club. These individuals come from a variety of backgrounds. The group includes doctors, lawyers, computer technicians, teachers, financial planners, marketing professionals, investment bankers, and real estate developers and investors. Each member of the teaching team is committed to making a personal, grass-roots contribution to improving their community.
